Thomas Buford Heiser
1921 - 2014
Thomas Buford Heiser, age 93, a resident of Pensacola, Florida passed away on May 18, 2014 at his home. He was born in Stuttgart, Arkansas and moved to Pensacola in 1995 from Las Vegas, Nevada after living 60 years in Santa Ana, California. Thomas attended college twice, in New Mexico and in Utah, because he wanted to play football. He served his country for 20 years in the United States Marine Corps and retired as Sergeant Major. He then Worked for McDonnell Douglas from 1962 - 1986. He was also a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
Thomas was a gentle soul who made friends wherever he went. In Pensacola, he was a regular customer at Burger King, Oscars, McDonald's, Denny's, CiCi's and Monterrey's. He enjoyed doing handiwork around the house, spending time with his family, telling stories about his youth and time in the Marines, reading magazines, collecting coins, going to Biloxi, watching sports, reading the newspaper, watching old movies, and taking naps with his cats.
Thomas is preceded in death by parents, Mabelle and George Heiser; his wife of 52 years, Mildred M. Heiser who passed away 09/25/2000. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara L. Wilson of Pensacola, Florida; granddaughter, Shannon R. Nyland; granddaughter, Barbara A. Tiller; great grandchildren, Roderick Tiller, Madeline Tiller, and Andrew Nyland; brother Carl Heiser of Arkansas. Thomas grew up with two sisters, Ida Elizabeth Heiser and Gladys Heiser.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.
