Lucille Gammon McCutchan

1922 - 2014

Lucille Gammon McCutchan passed away peacefully in her home on May 15, 2014 after a full and happy life. Born a free spirit on November 25, 1922 to Melvin and Mable (Koutz) Gammon in Boonville, Indiana, and grew up in Evansville, Indiana. She evolved to be a liberated woman of her time and committed to her life mate James R. McCutchan and her three children, Diane, Clay, and Gail. In her youth, she was an outstanding scholar, varsity athlete, cheer leader, and band member. As an adult she served in World War Two as an Air Force civil service and defense plant worker. She was an excellent civilian pilot, pistol and rifle shooter, water skier, tractor driver, and gardener. Later she raised her family in Fort Walton Beach, Florida with Jim and completed a thirty plus year in civil service at Eglin Air Force Base. In all her work places, she rose to leader, manager, supervisor positions. Kind, full of spark, humor, and laughter, she had a quick wit. At home and work, her nick name was "Last Word Lucy." She was always gracious and polite to strangers and a friend to the down and out. A loyal, passionate military spouse, she was a strong, caring and loving mother and raised three successful children. She is survived by two grand sons, Andy and Arron. Donations in her name can be made to West Florida Hospital, Covenant Hospice, Pensacola.
