Raleigh June Purser (June) passed away peacefully Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Blake in Gulf Breeze, FL. She was 89 years old. June was born in Philadelphia, PA. and attended Hahnemann University School of Nursing. She married Robert Kent Purser on December 20, 1947 in Atlantic City, New Jersey and was married to him for 49 years until his passing in 1996. Together, they traveled the world visiting cities from Europe to Asia.
June was a loving mother of 5 children, a military wife, and donated significant time to the Navy Relief Society as both a member and as the President of the Guam Naval Base Chapter for 4 years. She loved to dance and rarely sat out a song during dinner dances and events.
Following the death of her husband, June enjoyed the companionship of Mr. Clyde Anderson for 6 years until her need for assisted living. While with Mr. Anderson, she was an active member of the Pensacola Jazz Society and a Krewe member of the Bananamil Mardi Gras organization.
June is survived by her 5 children, Robert, Sr., Guy, Sandra, Scott, and Mark; by 7 grandchildren, Lori, Katherine, Nathan, Kyle, Alec, Kirsten, and Lauren; and by one great grand child, Brody. The family would like to recognize caregivers, Sharon Cain and Heidi Thompson, the staff of the Blake, and the Emerald Coast Hospice for the wonderful care provided to June. Donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are requested in lieu of flowers.
A memorial will be held at the Blake on June 24th at 3:00 pm. Graveside service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on June 25th at 10:15am.
