Ray "Doo" Brown

1925-2014

Ray Brown, age 88 of Pensacola, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, June 14, 2014. He is survived by daughter LaRaye Ryan; granddaughter Kelly Ryan (Mario Cieri); grandson Jay Ryan (Tiffany); great-grandson Colin Ryan; sister-in-law Laurine Cato; and beloved pets Sadie and Buddy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ora Brown, and wife of 64 years, Kay "Nanna" Brown. Ray first met Kay when they were 14 years old and he stopped to help fix her bicycle. After high school graduation, they married and moved to San Diego, where he was stationed while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After also serving in the U.S. Army National Guard during the war, he was a cost estimator for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as General Dynamics in St. Louis, Missouri. He loved his time in Hawaii, especially operating two dress shops with his daughter. After leaving Hawaii, he was involved in Home Mission work in Jefferson City, Missouri. Ray and Kay relocated to Pensacola, Florida in 1991. He loved fishing at the lake, RVing, watching golf, cruising, eating, and playing games. Known as "Doo" to most, he was a jokester who loved life, taking it easy, and teasing

everyone he met. A private, graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 18, at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pensacola Children's Chorus.
