1938 - 2014
David Artis, 75, passed away June 30, 2014. Mr. Artis was born October 14, 1938 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, was a native of Pensacola and lived in Pace for the past 39 years. Mr. Artis was a U.S. Navy Veteran, retired from Borden Dairy in Pensacola and retired from Pacer Industries in Pensacola. He was a member of Pace United Methodist Church and enjoyed golf, calling bingo, volunteering and helping others especially his neighbors and close friends. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Artis was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby (Whitsell) Artis, his loving wife of 42 years, Millie Artis, and daughter Kathryn Spears.
Mr. Artis is survived by 4 sons: Dennis Artis of Pace, Dewayne Artis of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Doug Artis of Chicago, Illinois and Gerald Gillis of Milton; 2 daughters: Genny Hudson of Milton and Teresa Dodson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 1 sister, Georgie Bracken of Holt; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to especially thank Mr. Artis's granddaughter, Christina Powell, for the love and care she provided to her grandfather in his last days, his little ray of sunshine.
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. at National Cremation & Burial Society of Milton. The family will receive friends from Noon until the service hour. Interment will be in Memory Park Cemetery.
