Thomas Willhoit

1929 - 2014

Jimmie Lynnelton Thomas Willhoit, 85, a long-time resident of Milton, went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2014.

Born May 14, 1929, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was the last of three children born to James and Rose Thomas. Her mother died during her birth. Later her father married Cora Ledford and Jimmie gained three additional older siblings.

After graduating from Central High School in 1947, she worked at The Vogue in downtown Chattanooga. Later she served as the pastor's secretary at Brainerd Baptist Church. Jimmie attended summer classes at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where she developed a love for her Lord and a passion for Bible study and prayer.

At the age of 25, Jimmie married Rhoten Willhoit on October 30, 1954. They moved to Milton, Florida, in 1958. Jimmie's greatest joy was being a wife, a mom, and finally a Momadad to her four grandchildren. She also worked as a typesetter for the Press Gazette and Culpepper Printing and secretary for Milton First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Milton Shakespeare Club.

An outstanding cook, Jimmie would minister to family and friends by baking and giving away her famous pound cake and pecan tassies. An active member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years, Jimmie was a long-time teacher of the Faith Sunday School class and served in the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of the Charity Sunday School Class.

Jimmie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Rhoten Willhoit; her parents, James Holland and Rose McVey Thomas; her second mama, Cora Ledford Thomas; brother, Farnest and Midge Thomas; sister, Tressa and Chevius Greene; brother Arthur and Margaret Ledford; sister Edith and Weldon Longgley; and sister Polly and John Wheeler.
