David Moody Obituary
David Cruickshank Moody

David Cruickshank Moody passed on to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 2, 2014. His wife and girls were at his side.Dave was born December 6, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan and was raised in Windsor Ontario, Canada. In 1961 he married his sweet bride Elsie. He joined the US Navy and rose through the ranks to Senior Chief Petty Officer and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was assigned to the USS Bainbridge as part of Task Force One. The all nuclear powered unit circumnavigated the globe without refueling, traveling 30,565 miles in sixty-five days. After retiring from the Navy in 1976, Dave worked 18 years at Baptist Hospital, retiring as Chief of Surgical Maintenance. He was well known for being able to fix nearly anything and affectionately called "Doc Moody." Dave was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for many years. A long time member of the Pensacola YMCA, he enjoyed working out and visiting with his many friends and fellow members. A beloved father and grandfather, Dave was a kind, congenial, intelligent and good-looking young man - a fact he enjoyed mentioning to his daughters. His wit and humor will be missed. He was preceded in death by his son, David C. Moody II of Pensacola; his mother, Agnes Anderson Moody and his father, James Moody, both of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He leaves behind his wife, Elsie I. Moody, four daughters Tracey Verge (Kent) of Bentonville, AR, Kelly Hathcock (Bill) of Red Hook, NY, Robin Wilkinson (Rodney) of Pensacola, and Heather Smith (Brian) of Pensacola; nine grandchildren: Mark and Alison Dalbey; Chris and David Hathcock; Amy, Ashley, and Ryan Wilkinson; and Dylan and Gavin Smith; and his brother William Moody of Harrow, Ontario and sisters Ella Tickner and Annie Holder of Windsor, Ontario.

A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warrington on Friday, August 8, 2014. Visitation will start at 10 AM; the memorial service will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Redeemer Lutheran School Scholarship Fund or to the YMCA of Northwest Florida (Downtown Branch). Arrangements entrusted to Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Pensacola, FL
