FEBRUARY 20, 1960- MARCH 25, 2009

Valerie Ann Mims-Hernandez passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2009.
She was born in Pensacola, Florida on February 20, 1960. She was a graduate of the Class of 1978 at Woodham High School and Florida A & M University where she received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing. She later received a Master's of Health Care Management from Troy University. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She worked for many years in the Escambia County School district as a school nurse and health educator.
She was a member of Greater Union Baptist Church, where she served as the Wellness Ministry Director.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents John and Vina Dennis, and adoptive father, Garey Earl Mims.
Mourning her loss are: her husband of 20 years, Paul Hernandez; her loving sons, Christopher and Darian Hernandez; her devoted mother Mary Alice Mims; mother-in-law, Edwina Hernandez; two sisters, Charlene Mims-Griffin and Tracey Mims-Nickerson; one brother Ramon Mims (Kayla); nieces, Jennifer Mims and Ayleah Nickerson; nephews, Lamar and Justin Griffin, Jacob Mims, Adrian J. Nickerson, Shakel Steplight, and Jalen Craig; special cousins, Denise and Toni Ann Brooks as well as her Uncle, Walter Brooks; Great Aunt, Emma Doris Fair and Cousin Rosemary Crosby; God-mother, Virginia Ann Kirksey; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family will gather to celebrate her life on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 9:00 am at The Greater Union Baptist Church. The family visitation will be 9:00am to 9:30am followed by an Omega Omega Service by the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The funeral will follow immediately after at 10:00 am.
