SCPO Howard Carvin Freeman, Sr. was born on March 20, 1933 to Howard and Rosette Freeman in Kennedy, Alabama. He was the third of seven children. Mr. Freeman married Mary Louise Blalock on Oct. 3, 1953. To this blessed union was born seven wonderful children.
After serving over 24 years in the United States Navy and traveling all over the world, he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in Pensacola, FL. He also retired from civil service work after working over 15 years at the Pensacola Naval Air Station.
SCPO Freeman served as an ordained Deacon for over 50 years. Deacon Freeman learned how to serve and trust the Lord at an early age. He was an active member of the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church where he served in several capacities. Deacon Freeman loved life and loved the Lord and it was reflected in everything he did...from working in his yard to spending time with his family to helping build the ministry. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
Deacon Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Rosette Freeman; a son, Michael Freeman; a granddaughter, Makayla Freeman Ladd; two sisters, Pernell Russell and Ruby Storey-Johnson; and two brothers, Eddie and George Freeman.
Deacon Freeman leaves to cherish his memory a loving and faithful wife, Louise Blalock Freeman; two sons, Howard (Mary Ann) Freeman and Russell (Jacqueline) Freeman; four daughters, Janis (Bobby) Watkins, Felicia (Lewis) Stabler, Dr. Mayra Freeman-Ladd, and Margaret (Carlton) Walden; two adopted children, Jimmy Jones and Ethel McDougal; a sister, Ozie Bea (Felton) Simpson; a brother, William (Dorothy) Freeman; over thirty grandchildren, over forty-five great-grandchildren, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
May Deacon Freeman's memory live on in his favorite song, "Bye and Bye."
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at Zion Hope Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at 2:00pm with the Bishop Howard C. Freeman, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be at Joe Morris Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 from 1 to 9pm.
