Oliver Gene Byrd, 82, of Pensacola passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010.

Mr. Byrd was born on May 7, 1928 in Birmingham, AL. He graduated high school in Century, FL. Mr. Byrd served in the US Army in the 43rd Infantry Division. He retired from AMSouth Bank with prior employment with Birmingham Electric, St. Regis Paper Co. and Hill Kelly Dodge. He enjoyed field trips with his friend Jack Fiveash hunting, fishing, golf and tennis. He was a member of the Rotary receiving the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Other memberships include Masonic affiliation, Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Scenic Hills Country Club. Mr. Byrd was a member of the First Baptist Church in Flomaton, AL.
His son Oliver Gene Byrd, II, mother Clara Smith Byrd and father Eugene B. Byrd preceded him in death.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 59 years Marguerite R. Byrd; sister Frances Byrd Edwards (Mike) and their son Stephen Edwards; sister-in-laws Helen Pink of Lake Worth, FL, Betty Lopez (Eddie) of Deland, FL; two nieces, three nephews, nine grandnephews, many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at 9:00am until the Funeral Service at 10:30am Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Associate Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Flomaton, AL Jerry Keese will officiate. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
Active Pallbearers will be Charles Brown, Tommy Holland, Mark Sasser, Randy Cohron, Chris Pink and Tom Whitby.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Amos Prevatt, Lee Archer, Jerry Brown, Curtis Walker, E. W. Hopkins, Olin Tisdale, Van McCaskill, Jimmy Haynes Sammy Kirkland and L. S. Turner.
The Byrd family would like to extend a special appreciation and thanks to Dr. Amos Prevatt, Dora and his wonderful staff for their many years of loving care. Dr. Herron and his staff for their many kindnesses of service?the nurses and members of the staff at Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence.
