John Clopton Obituary

John Howard

Clopton

Apriil 17, 1928

March 29, 2011

John Howard Clopton (April 17, 1928 - March 29, 2011) passed away peacefully at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alabama early Tuesday Morning after a long struggle with both Cancer and Lewy Body Dementia. Mr. Clopton lived nearly his entire life in the Pensacola area except for brief periods to serve in the military and to attend College. Dad, a 1946 graduate of Pensacola High, served in the Navy in both World War II and in the Korean War Conflict and was a member of the force that occupied Japan shortly after Japan's surrender in WWII. Our father attended the University of Florida on the Gl Bill, and graduated with High Honors with a degree in Pharmacy. Dad worked as a retail pharmacist in the Downtown sector of Pensacola for over forty years until his retirement in 1994 He was an active member of the Escambia Pharmacy Association. Dad worked for the Moulton Drug Company for the first twenty five years of his career and served as President and Co-Owner and Operator of Hannah Pharmacy for the last 15 years of his career. Dad also served on the Pensacola Downtown Development committee during the nineties; and after his retirement turned his attention to his favorite hobby gardening. Dad was an active member of both the Garden Club and Rose Society, as well as participating in the Jasmine Society, before Dementia took its toll on his health in the last few years of his life. Dad also served tirelessly as the unpaid Treasurer of the Clopton Cemetery Association and helped countless people find their loved ones plots or graves at this medium sized graveyard on Davis Hwy. My Father and Mother were both members of East Hill Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Birdie Lawrence; and his brother, Lawrence Clopton.

Dad is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Jean Butler Clopton and their three children, Cyndi Cameron (Dan), Mary Anne Lyle (Stephen Scott) and John Scott Clopton; five grandchildren, Ryan Ellard (Marina), Jennifer Clopton, Brad and Brett Ellard, and Ethan Lyle and his sister, Fran Clopton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that all donations and gifts be donated to either the Lewy Body Dementia Association or the American Cancer Society

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home with Brother Stan Adams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Our condolences to the Clopton family.
Beth and I always loved the cheerful good humor, smiles, and stories told by John around the Holiday table, usually either at Mary Anne and Scott's house or the Lyle's house at these get-togethers with John's daughter Mary Anne and family.
