Dean Nichols, 67 of Pace passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2011. He was born April 18, 1944 near Dixon, MO to the late Ernest Nichols and Eula Lee Spencer Nichols.

Dean joined the Navy right after high school, he signed up while still in school, left for boot camp shortly after his senior trip. Dean served 26 years, during his years of service to this country he traveled the world; among his many tours he completed overseas tours in the Philippines and Japan, he spent time onboard the USS Enterprise off the coast of Vietnam. He was also stationed at NAS North Island in San Diego and at NAS Pt MUGU. Dean met and married his lovely wife while serving in the Philippines. The two spent the next 37 years side by side going from duty station to duty station until finally deciding to retire in Pace, Florida. After retiring from the Navy, Dean worked as a Jet Engine Mechanic onboard NAS Pensacola until he retired in 2007.

Dean enjoyed gardening and corresponding with friends via the internet. He also pursued higher education receiving a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of West Florida. He was an active member of the Filipino American Association of Milton and held several offices over the years including Public Relations Officer and Vice President.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Cora; a brother, Dennis Lee Nichols, Sr. and wife Helen of Iberia, MO; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in both the US and Philippines.

The viewing will be held 5-7 pm Monday, May 2, 2011 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. The burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:15 pm. The reception will be 2:30 pm Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
