Joe Wells Stanton, Sr.


On June 18, 2012, Joe Wells Stanton, Sr. passed away in Niceville, FL at the age of 83. Joe was the son of Charles Joseph Stanton and Carrie Wells Stanton of Ashford, AL. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and left his service as a Captain. Joe received his BS degree from Troy University and his Masters from Auburn University. He became an educator with the Okaloosa County School System. Along with his wife, Rosemary, Joe retired with over 30 years of service. His career was as a teacher, Principal, and Science Curriculum Coordinator for the Okaloosa School System. After his beloved wife Rosemary passed after 48 years of marriage, he was blessed with marrying his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Allison. They had 10 wonderful years together before she also passed. Joe loved his family and friends and is survived by two sons: Joe Wells Stanton, Jr. , with wife Peggy, of Niceville, and Sanford Dawsey Stanton with wife Teresa of Pensacola. He also had three stepsons, David, Buddy and Donnie Allison of Texas. His sister, Phoebe Stanton of Ashford, AL also survives him.

Visitation will be from 9-10:00 am on Friday, June 22 at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Heritage Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cantonment, FL 32533.
