HERBERT DRAKE, 83, of Pensacola, FL. lost his battle with Alzheimer's disease and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec, 22, 2012 born in Hazard, KY. His childhood sweetheart and devoted wife of 63 years, Virginia, was at his side when he quietly passed. Herbert spent his childhood exploring the Appalachia Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Joining the U.S. Navy at age 17, Herbert Served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and served 17 years Civil Service for U.S. Army. He proudly served 47 years in defense of his country. His highly decorated naval career is on permanent display at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. Herbert loved the outdoors and enjoyed exploring the ghost towns of the American West as well as ancient ruins around the world. His love of music was a big part of his life. Performing professionally in 1968 thru 1969, he enjoyed playing his guitar and serenaded his loving wife daily until his death. His inspiring love for his wife and family was an eternal flame that burned from within. His family will now pick up his fallen torch and keep the flame alive.

Herbert was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Drake and brothers Robert Drake, and Johnny Drake. He is survived by his wife Virginia R. Drake, son Aaron Drake of Anchorage, Alaska; Ron and Becky Drake of Grand Junction. Co; brothers Franklin of Lee County, Kentucky; Earl Drake of Reno, Nevada; four sisters, Cordelia Caudill of Monroe, Ohio; Gladys May of Pensacola, FL; Rebecca Cox, Nancy Myers of Prineville, Oregon. Eight grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Tracy Morton Memorial Chapel, 55 Coast Road, Pensacola, Florida from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday December 30. Memorial service will be on Monday 31 December at 12 pm. Herbert will be laid to rest with Honors at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station.
