Elton and Nellene Burkett
On January twenty-third two thousand thirteen, the world lost two very special people, Elton Leon Burkett, Sr. and Nellene Henderson Burkett, in an unfortunate occurrence.
The loss of these two people is a devastating blow to all who had the honor of knowing them, to know how kind-hearted, selfless and most of all how loving they were. They were the type of people that did everything for everybody and never expected anything in return. They were active members of Lakeview Baptist Church, where Elton was a deacon and Nellene was a teacher of the BYKOTA Sunday school class. Elton retired from the Pensacola News Journal in 1997. Nellene retired from Roche Biomedical in 1993.
They are preceded in death by parents of both and five of Elton's siblings.
Elton is survived by brothers, Tommy (Dovie), J.M. (Cloie Ann), Wilbur (Glenna), Leroy (Jenell), and Robert; and sister, Margaret Ann Brown. Nellene is survived by Julia, Randall and Jody (Richard). They are also survived by their loving nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives. They are lovingly remembered by their daughter, Kevin McGuffin (James "Bim") and their son, Elton Leon Burkett Jr. (Wendy); Grandchildren Carissa Mitchell (Thomas), James Burkett, Jonathan Burkett, Allyson McGuffin, Kara Burkett and Great-Grandson Zachary Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at Lakeview Baptist Church, 1100 W. Michigan Avenue. The funeral service will be immediately following the viewing at the church with the Rev. Charles S. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
