MSGT Clenton Lavon "Bill" Jones (Ret) (USMC)
MSGT Clenton Lavon "Bill" Jones (Retired) (USMC), died March 29, 2013, at his home in Youngstown, Fla., with his cousins and caregivers, Jack and Linda Finch, at his side. "Bill" moved to Youngstown for care, but Pensacola was his home. Bill was born February 10, 1935 to Travis and Mary Jones of Jay, Fla. It took only 16 years for him to become a Marine. He joined the Marines on February 13, 1952. During his career, he served honorably, and with valor in Korea, Vietnam, the Congo, Africa, while at the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam (5 years). He was honored to be a personal body guard to Henry Cabot Lodge while he was Ambassador to Vietnam. Clenton retired from the U.S. Marine Corps on March 31, 1973 with 22 years of dedicated service and many medals and awards.
Passing before Bill were his parents, Travis and Mary Jones; his brother, Travis A. Jones Jr. and his niece Carol Ann Embry.
Clenton is survived by a sister, Annette Mealor of Birmingham, Al; nephews, Joey Martin (Betty), Billy Martin (Renae), Steve Martin (Stephanie) and his niece, Kathy Williams, all of Birmingham, and many great nieces and nephews who loved him dearly along with many, many great friends and associates, especially Steve and JoAnn Carnley of Pensacola.
In lieu of flowers a donation to either Escambia Covenant or Bay Covenant Hospice would be appreciated. They are truly angels and should be so recognized.
Funeral services will be at 11:30am, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors. Chaplain Steve Watson will be officiating.
