Ellen Ann Dunn
The Guest Book is expired.
Ellen Ann Dunn Fontaine went home to the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2013. We were blessed to have her for 93 years. Her husband of 67 years said, "If there were more people like her, we wouldn't need a police department."
Ellen was born in Mason County, West Virginia, the oldest daughter of Miriam and James Dunn.
Her life was defined by her daily accomplishments. She was a secretary for the war department in Atlanta, Georgia during World War II. She met a young Marine, Winston, on a blind date. They married in 1945. Ellen was the ideal Marine wife, keeping things together at home during frequent military separations. After his retirement, they moved to Pensacola where she continued to keep the family together while Winston and their two daughters went to college. She was an immaculate housekeeper, an accomplished seamstress, and good cook.
On their 65th anniversary Winston said he "was married to an angel, every day was a holiday, every meal was a banquet, and I live in paradise." She will be greatly missed by those who loved her. We live in hope of our eventual reunion in heaven.
Ellen was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by a sister, Rachel; her husband, Winston; two daughters, Sandra Miller (Ric) and Rebecca Garvin (Durrice); three grandchildren, Barton, Jeremy, and Melanie; and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Kristen.
The family wants to express gratitude to Cathy, Harlan, and Donna for their neighborly care. Thanks also to the folks at Dieu De Temple for their kindness and Covenant Hospice for their care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Fontaine to Covenant Hospice of West Florida Hospital.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Reverend Herman Knapp will be officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
