For twenty five years she and her late husband owned and operated Hicks' Grocery and Market on the corner of Old Palafox and St. John's Street (where the big bull stood). She was a member of the Olive Baptist Church and faithfully attended as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest C. Hicks; her son, Ernest C. Hicks, Jr.; two brothers, Luther Cotton and Maxie Cotton. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Bilinski, Orlando; Jackie (John) Beck, Pensacola; daughter-in-law, Bonava (Hicks) Shelby, Madison, MS; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a VERY special friend, Greg Lowery, along with many other dear friends. The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Amos Prevatt for the superb care he gave our loved one for fifty years. A celebration of her life will be held at Olive Baptist Church Monday, May 13, 2013, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Hope and Health Clinic or The Ministry Village at Olive Baptist Church, 1836 Olive Road, Pensacola Florida 32514; or Covenant Hospice, 10075 Hillview Road, Pensacola, Florida 32514.
