John Larry Ruschel
1931 - 2013
John Larry Ruschel was called home to his heavenly father on Sunday, June 16, 2013.
Larry was born in Danville, IL on January 28, 1931. He retired from the US Post Office after 34 years of service. He served from 1950 - 1954 in the US Navy and did the first maiden voyage deployment aboard the USS Oriskany (CV34). He was an active member of the Elk's Lodge #2108, Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church and a faithful golfer at Osceola Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Nina Ruschel; mother, Vera Mae; father, John Leo; and two sisters, Virginia and Kathleen.
He is survived by his sons, David (Vicki) Ruschel; Dale (Christy) Ruschel; daughter, Dawn (Sean) Rupert; his beloved grandchildren, Kristin Ruschel, Christina (Travis) Downey, Michael (Sharon) Jones, Kyle Ruschel, Andrea Ruschel, Chance Ruschel, Jana (Steve) Simmons, Coyce (Edina) Simmons and Christopher Patchett; five great grandsons; five great granddaughters; sister, Judy Tipsword; nieces, Sharon Hicks, Vera Phillips; nephews, Buddy (Carolyn) Montgerard, Larry (Debbie) Montgerard, EJ Phillips, Billy (Loretta) Payton, Robert (Debbie) Payton, Byron Payton; and his beloved pets Princess and Weezie; and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral, officiated by Pastor Riley Richardson will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 1pm, with burial and military honors at 2pm to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Jones, Kyle Ruschel, Joseph Jones, Gary Jones, Larry Preble and Brian Case.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Covenant Hospice 5041 N. 12th Ave. Pensacola, FL 32504.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
