Floyd Drish, beloved husband, cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather left this world for the next on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.
Floyd was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania on August 11, 1923. Floyd served in the Navy in World War II from 1942 to 1946 aboard the USS Endicott. He retired from United States Steel after 48 years of service as a railroad engineer. Floyd was the former governor, bookkeeper, and auditor of the Moose Lodge of East Pittsburgh, as well as several other businesses in the Pittsburgh area. Upon his retirement, Floyd and his family moved to Pace, FL., where Floyd enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a long time, active member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Elks Lodge. Floyd and Virginia were avid ballroom dancers and he served as an officer for many of the local ballroom dance organizations.
Floyd is preceded in death by his mother Erma Soles Drish; father, Herbert Drish; sister, Lorraine Brumbaugh; brother, Donald Drish; and stepson, Donald Cox.
Floyd is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Virginia, his four children, daughter Elaine (Duane) Ruggier, daughter Arlene (James) Michaelson, son Ronald (Victoria) Drish, and daughter Marianne (Gregory) Snyder. He is also survived by his three stepsons Robert (Louise) Cox, Thomas (Zana) Cox, and Edward (Diane) Cox. Floyd is also survived by his sisters Lavonne (Joseph) Buttyan and Lois (Samuel) Jones and his brothers Ronald Drish and James Drish. Floyd is also survived by his loving granddaughter and grandson, April and Jeremy Lowe, who cared for Floyd daily since he became ill in July of 2012. He is also survived by many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Floyd was inurned at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors followed by a private family memorial service on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. The National Cremation & Burial Society was entrusted with the arrangements.
