Oscar W. Olson, Jr., 92 of Pensacola passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013.
Mr. Olson was born on July 15, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Oscar and Mary Virginia Olson. He grew up in Winnetka, IL a suburb of Chicago.
Upon graduation from high school he attended Virginia Polytechnical Institute, and enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1942. He was called to active service in 1943 and participated in the invasion of France and completed his three years of service in the European Theater. Shortly after returning home he met and married Ruth Russell. He continued his education at Lake Forest College in IL and graduated in 1948.
He started his business career with General Electric in Milwaukee, WI. In 1950, he joined Continental Can Co. in the plant accounting department. He was with Continental Can Co. for 33 years, 18 of which were in the head office in New York City, working in the systems development and program installations, which involved working with many plants in the United States and Europe.
During his life he was active in sports, Boy Scouts the American Legion and church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jane Virginia Olson and Ann Calista Neuman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth R. Olson; sister Mary Lou Brown of New York City, NY; two sons, John Thomas Olson of Fairhope, AL and Benjamin Wilford Olson of Ridgefield, CT; two daughters, Jane Elizabeth Magaziner of Randolph, NJ and Nancy Ruth Walters of Old Fort, NC; nine grandchildren; one step granddaughter; three great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am Saturday, August 31, 2013 in the Azalea Trace Auditorium, with Rev. Fr. Roberts Graves officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Pensacola or to the Heritage Fund at Azalea Trace.
