Walker Benedict Wilkins, Jr.

1932-2013

Walker Benedict Wilkins, with his loving wife and children at his bedside, peacefully passed away Monday afternoon September 2, 2013, after a brief 6 month struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Walker was raised in the Catholic Church and was grateful to be comforted by the clergy of St. Paul Catholic Church, Father Doug and Father Kevin, at the end of his life. Walker served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was active in Knights of Columbus, reaching a rank of 4th degree before becoming inactive. After a successful 32 year career at NADEP, and not being able to stay retired, Walker enjoyed consulting work for GE International, giving him the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world. Starting another adventure after retiring from GE International, Walker started his own home inspection business to keep him active in the workforce. Often, he was able to donate these services to those who were in need, but unable to pay for the inspection.

Walker enjoyed riding his Harley with his brother-in-law Mike Hollis and cousin Lamar Spradlin, they enjoyed traveling the roads and riding free, making many trips to the mountains. Walker enjoyed coaching minor and little league baseball teams at the Myrtle Grove Ball Park from approximately 1964 to 1970 while Buckey, Sherry, Ron and Karen played ball growing up, taking a team to the little league world series in Biloxi, Ms. Walker's last coaching at Myrtle Grove was in the early 90s, coaching a Pony League with Louie Cobb a very close friend. Walker owned many boats and loved everything about the water! He also enjoyed his bass boat and fishing with his son-in-law Robert Howard.

Walker was preceded in death by his father, Buck; mother, Ruby; step-mother, Hazel and beloved sister, JoAnne Maines.

Walker is survived by his loving wife, Cyndi, and his children, Walker II (Buckey), (Wife Kathy), Sherry Kuss, (husband Bill) Ronald, (wife Stacey), Karen Olson (husband John), Monica Howard (husband Robert) Annelle Willard (husband Jaime). Also surviving and loving his memory are fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful dogs Lily and Daisy.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Aaron Wilkins, Nicholas Olson, Nathan Olson, Billy Bangs, special nephew Howard Maines, and friend, Scott Hardin.

Visitation will be at Faith Chapel South on Thursday from 6-8 pm. Rosary will be prayed by Pam Glazer at 6:00 pm and funeral service will be Friday at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family thanks the staff of Covenant Hospice for their comforting care.
