Senior Chief (YNCS AW) James William McGuffin, Jr., U.S. Navy (Retired), 62, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. He was born on June 26, 1951 in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
In February 1974 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country proudly for 26 years. He earned the National Defense Service Medal (2), Good Conduct Medal (6), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal (2), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3), Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon, and the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Insignia. He was an active member of VFW Post#4833 and the Military Order of the Cootie.
He was preceded in death by his father, James William McGuffin, Sr. and his mother, Lamae Sattizahn McGuffin.
He is survived by his three sons, James and his wife, Kevin Irene, Jessie and his fiancée, Karissa, and Michael and his wife, Ashley; the mother of his children, Kathy; six grandchildren, Carissa (Thomas), James, Allyson, Bailee, Blaine, and Austin; his great-grandson, Zachary; and a host of longtime friends.
Pallbearers will be Stan Abrams (U.S. Army), Roger Gable (U.S. Marines Retired), Harold Hulst (U.S. Navy Retired), Lutz Gruse (U.S. Army Retired), Cho Remarez (U.S. Navy Retired), and Burt Larson (U.S. Navy Retired).
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Lakeview Baptist Church, 1100 W. Michigan Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32505. A visitation will be held at 10:30 am with services starting at 12:30 p.m. with Brother Ken Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
