The theatre world lost one of its most passionate members this year. Director Ronald Roston died August 30 in New York City. A Milwaukee native (born August 16, 1935), he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Hunter College of the City University of New York. His career as director, teacher, and mentor spanned five decades, with his final work as Associate Professor in Acting and Directing at the University of West Florida and Artistic Director of the Pensacola Little Theatre.
His long and distinguished professional life included being the Artistic Director of the Writers' Circle in New York; Head of the MFA Directing Program at Rutgers University; and Artistic Director of the Renegade Theater Company in Hoboken, New Jersey. He also directed "A Jazz Nativity" in New York and various productions at the Manhattan Theater Club, the Westchester Regional Theater, the Circle Repertory Company, and the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Ellen; his sons, Aaron and Adrian; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Meadows; and three grandchildren, Nicolas, Lincoln and Brooklyn. Contributions in his memory may be made to the University of Wisconsin or the Pensacola Little Theatre.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pensacola Little Theatre on September 29, at 2:30 p.m.
