Patricia Christopher Cline, 92, of Pensacola, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2013.
She was born on March 5, 1921, in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Willis Irwin Christopher and Ruth Rector Christopher. She graduated from Springfield High School and went on to Mississippi State College for Women where she graduated in 1942 then taught high school in Carruthersville, MO. After one year of teaching, Mississippi State College for Women invited her to return there and serve as a Social Advisor. She served there for two years, but in as much as World War II was still sending injured soldiers to hospitals at home she decided to join the American Red Cross where she became a hospital recreation worker-arranging ward parties, showing movies, planning dances, accompanying group outings and many other activities. It was in one of the Red Cross recreation rooms that Walter Cline, who had just returned from the South Pacific, came one day asking if he could help, and with those words Pat and Walter's wonderful life together began. They married in 1946, and were married for 64 years. They lived in Grottoes, VA, Baltimore, MD, and Harrisonberg, VA before moving to Pensacola where they lived for 10 years. In 1964 they moved to Troon, Scotland, which they loved, but Walter was transferred back to Pensacola after 3 years. Five years later they were sent to Luxemboug, where they lived for 7 years. Walter retired shortly after they came back from Luxembourg, and they enjoyed the home they had built during one of their times in Pensacola. With all of the many places they lived, Pat spend a lot of time searching for houses, moving into them, and decorating them-which she loved. She and Walter traveled whenever they could, but she always had time for her Monday bridge group-her devoted friends whom she had known and with whom she played bridge 50 years.
Pat is survived by her devoted children; Patsy Stewart (Birmingham, AL), Walter Cline and his wife, Robert Reardon (New York, NY); her beloved grandchildren, Cia and Brock Tompkins (Birmingham, AL) and Christina and Owen Shipler (Richmond VA); her precious great grandchildren Hudson Shipler and Kate Tompkins; and her brother Phillip Christopher (Edmonds, WA).
Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Barrancas National Cemetery and a Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service at Wright Place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Heritage Fund, Azalea Trace, 10100 Hillview Dr., Pensacola, FL 32514 or First United Methodist Church, 6 E. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
The family will be forever grateful to the staff of Willowbrooke Court at Azalea Trace for their loving care of Pat. She looked beautiful every single day, and they made her smile every single day-even when she was telling them how to do their jobs!
