Jerry Gay Skates passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013. He was married 52 years to Mary Musgrove Skates. He served 6 years in the Army; founding member of the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief ; master carpenter; retired from NADEP where he was supervisor of pattern maker carpentry shop; member of Lillian United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Big Lagoon, Warrington Elks Lodge 2109, Roving Elks Camping Club, Am Vets, and an avid outdoorsman.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Roland Skates and mother and step-father, Eva and Thomas Moylan; brothers-in-law, Grady Musgrove and Robert Etheridge.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Musgrove Skates; daughters, Beth Hudson (Mike) and Sally Roques; grandchildren, Danielle Roques and Joe Roques; sisters-in-law, Nadean Etheridge and Robbie Musgrove; precious K-9 companion, "Molly" and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Reverend Daniel Randall and Reverend Don Minton officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Roques, Bob Etheridge, Jeff Etheridge, Kyle Musgrove, Neal Woods and Justin Hardy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Blum, James Brown, Ken Robinson, Bob Arnold, Bill Roloph and Danielle Roques.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Association.
