Dewitt "Buddy" DeWeese

DeWitt (Buddy) DeWeese, Jr. born July 1, 1927 in Chautauqua, NY left this life December 14, 2013.

Funeral services were held Wednesday December 18, 2013 at 3:00 PM from the Ridgeland Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Visitation was Tuesday between the hours of 5 and 7 PM and after 2 PM Wednesday. Internment followed the service in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Preceded in death by his parents, Harriett and DeWitt DeWeese, sisters Shirley Black and Joan Nelson, and son Dan DeWeese. Buddy is survived by his wife Karreen DeWeese; son DeWitt DeWeese, III; sister Dawn Chimes of Sarasota, FL; aunt Elizabeth Neilson of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren, Dillon DeWeese, Demi DeWeese, and Daniel Harrison DeWeese; step-daughter Lynne Edwards Oliver (Bruce); step-sons Boyd Edwards (Lisa) and Andrew Edwards; step-grandchildren Elaina and Lindsey Edwards; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Buddy was a member of the Neshoba County American Legion and he served his country during World War II aboard the USS Chicago, returning to Phildelphia, MS to be involved in the family lumber business. He later moved to Jackson, owned and operated Lake Hico Marine. In 1966, he established Main Harbor Marina at the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Buddy had many enterprises with developments in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and New Mexico. He was truly a visionary. He was an avid sportsman, fisherman, hunter, and sporting dog enthusiast. He only found the best in people and was known for his quick wit and humor, and lived a full and blessed life.

Buddy was the owner and visionary of The Dock on Pensacola Beach from 1988 through 1999.
