"Connie" Bell


Lilah Consuelo "Connie" Bell Williams, 72, of 316 W. Cervantes, Pensacola, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 5.

Connie was a native and lifelong resident of Pensacola, living in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze all of her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Harrison Williams, and is survived by two daughters, Susannah Bell Fishman (Sheryl) and Sally Bell Greene, and four grandchildren: Everett, Emily, and Lilah Greene, and Georgia Fishman.

Connie graduated from Pensacola High School in 1959, and earned her B.A. from University of Florida. She taught high school English for a short time, but her true love was art.

Connie was widely known throughout the Gulf Coast area for her extraordinary art, leaving a legacy of pastel and oil paintings in the homes of countless residents of Pensacola and throughout the country.

She maintained an active commissioned portraiture business until a debilitating stroke in 1995. She studied under Robert Brackman, N.A. in Connecticut, and at the Art Students League in New York City. She co-owned the North Hill Gallery on Cervantes Street, and taught classes there, as well as at Pensacola Junior College, and at the Eastern Shore Art Association, among others.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home 124 W. Gregory Street, in Pensacola, with the Rev. Fr. Dominic Phan Sa of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Connie´s memory to Quayside Art Gallery, 17 E. Zarragossa St., Pensacola, FL 32502, attention Ruth Gordon. Funds will support the "Connie Bell Memorial Award" at the First City Art Show at Quayside in May 2014.
