James Joseph Haggard

1937 - 2014

James Haggard passed away on February 22, 2014. was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 19, 1937. He graduated from St. Michael's Catholic School, St. Joseph's Preparatory High School and St. Catherine's Junior College in Bardstown, Kentucky. He retired from the US Navy. His last duty station was US Naval Hospital, Pensacola, FL. Golfing with his good and close friends at AC Read Golf Course was his favorite hobby. Well-known for kindness and generosity, he was an excellent husband, father and grandfather.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Wanda Haggard; sister, Ila Greenwell; and daughter, Joyce Haggard. James is survived by his wife, Christine (from Guam); daughters, Wanda Simoneaux and Michelle Haggard; son-in-law, Christopher Simoneaux; and grandchildren, David and Miranda Simoneaux.

The family extends gratitude to Dr. Owera at Woodland Cancer Center, Covenant Hospice, Margaret Blue, Peggy Cooper, Roberta and all the other nurses who took excellent care of him.

The visitation (with Rosary Service at 6pm) will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church 900 W. Garden St., at 10am with burial and full military honors to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 11:45am. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
