After graduation from Highland Park High School, Highland Park, Michigan, in 1943, LCDR Jennings enlisted in the Navy, receiving his "Wings" in 1946. After 3 years active duty, LCDR Jennings attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ and Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, class of 1949. Upon graduation, LCDR Jennings was commissioned as an Ensign. A decorated Korean War aviator with VA-75 (Sunday Punchers), on USS MIDWAY, LCDR Jennings also served onboard USS BON HOMME RICHARD(CVA - 31) AND USS SARATOGA(CVA-60). LCDR Jennings's duty assignments included NAS Quonset Point, RI, NAS Birmingham, Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA, Mayport Naval Station(Jacksonville) and his twilight tour at Whiting Field, retiring in 1970.

Retirement also allowed more time for activities with his younger children including fixing breakfast and biking with them to school. His love of the beach as a youth at the Jersey Shore was the legacy he gave his own children with countless campouts and picnics on Pensacola Beach. He came out of retirement to join his daughter's specialty gift shop, Artesana, where he meticulously watched over the financial details for sixteen years.

The organizations he supported included Navy League, Association of US Navy, Pensacola Sports Association, Pensacola Symphony Orchestra and Naval Aviation Museum Foundation.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Leslie Jennings Preer.

Mr. Jennings is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Miriam Pullen Jennings; 7 children, Robin Carr(John), Bill Jennings(Julie), Frank Jennings(Alina), Valerie Jennings(Bob Covey), Harlan Jennings, Scott Jennings and Blair Haney(Kevin); 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
