Virgil Smith, 80, formerly of Otway, and more recently of Gallipolis, went to be with the Lord on Monday April 28, 2014 at his home. He was born March 1, 1934 in Pineville, Ky., son of the late Gilbert Smith and Dora Inman Smith.
Virgil is survived by his wife Rita Faye Bowling Smith; six sons, Mike, Tim, Steve, Jeff, Jason and Leslie Smith; four daughters, Trina, Rachel, Shannon and Stephanie; three sisters, Geneva, Linda and Brenda; two brothers, Bobby and Doug. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, a son, Matthew David Smith, three sisters, Dorothy, Rosie and Betty Jean, and two brothers, James and Andrew preceded Virgil in death.
Virgil was an employee of the Nile Township Trustee's where he retired in 1996. His greatest accomplishment in life was being a minister of the Gospel for 36 years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday May 1, 2014 at God's House on Bloomfield Road in Piketon with Pastor Denny Dalton and Reverend Danny Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in God's House Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly.
