Alvin Schatz

Alvin August Schatz, 97, of Adyeville passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
He was born March 20, 1915, in Adyeville to Adam and Frances (Jacob) Schatz.
He married Coleen Dowdy Nov. 12, 1949, in Assumption Cathedral in Evansville. Coleen died Oct. 6, 2008.
Alvin was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps. He was a retired farmer, a member of St. Meinrad Parish and a member of American Legion Post 366 in St. Meinrad.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosina Michaels and Olivia Welp and two brothers, Linus and Arthur Schatz.
Surviving are two sons, Sam Schatz and his wife, Pam of Santa Claus and Mark Schatz and his wife, Marja, of Siberia; one brother, Norbert Schatz of Boonville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery and military graveside rites by St. Meinrad Legion Post 366.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, (today) at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
