SACRAMENTO – Kenneth I. Bolin Sr., 79, died peacefully March 14, 2014, at his home in Sacramento, Calif., surrounded by his family.
He was born April 20, 1934, in Cannelton, to Stanley and Emma Bolin. He was an Indiana hometown boy, even though he left the state in 1953 to join the U.S. Air Force
Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rinda Bolin.
He is survived by his seven children, Susan, Diana, Kenneth Jr., James (Peggy), Brenda, Brian and Angela; a sister, Bertha Lawalin of Cannelton; a brother, Melvin, of Tell City; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. His 16-year-old grandson, Brian, was raised from birth by Ken and Rinda. Ken was also dad and grandpa to many others, regardless of blood relation.
He was a retired master sergeant who served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received numerous commendations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, which he carried in his toolbox after retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1976. It is well worn now and has gone with him on his final flight. Ken humbly served his country and was hero to all of his family.
