WAPELLO, Iowa - Margaret Ann Phillips, 77, of Wapello, died Saturday evening, July 13, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
The daughter of Edward B. and Dessa T. Allen Keown, she was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Cloverport, Ky. She married Marion Poole and later married Tony Yates.
Margaret graduated from Tell City High School in 1954. She had worked at General Electric in Tell City and then moved to Clinton, Iowa, and worked at Clinton Corn. For many years she did custodial work in private homes in Clinton.
She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Clinton and also the Red Hat Society in Clinton. Margaret enjoyed flower gardening, shopping, dining out with friends and her passion of housecleaning.
She is survived by her mother, Dessa Keown and friend Gary Brown of Tell City; a daughter, Debra and Jerry Snyder of Wapello; a son, Dan Yates of Muscatine, Iowa; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a brother, John Keown of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father; a stillborn daughter, Penny, and a sister, Katherine Bauer.
The funeral ceremony for Margaret Phillips was conducted Tuesday, July 16, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. Chaplain Dean Graber officiated. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery.
A memorial fund is established for the benefit of the Great River Hospice.
