TELL CITY – Murrel "Nick" Evans, 85, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Ezel, Ky., July 17, 1929, to the late Mitchell and Ada (Havens) Evans.
Nick was a 1947 graduate of Tell City High School and retired from General Electric in 1989. He was united in marriage Sept. 11, 1948, to Elizabeth "Betty" Sabelhaus, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are sons-in-law John Knable Sr. and Jerry Dixon; grandson Johnny Knable Jr.; a brother, Morrow "Tort" Evans and sisters Carol Higdon-Dunn and Ruby Vasserman.
Surviving are his children, Mike (Donna) Evans of Tell City, Karen Dixon of Cannelton and Sheila Knable of Tell City; sisters Jewel Sprinkle of Jacksonville, Fla., and Eva Brenner of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren Kristina Gayer, Stephanie Lindsey, Josh and Chris Evans and great-grandchildren, Karissa, Braedy, Kallie, Lorelai, Isabella, Camden and Christian.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Jim Weaver will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
