Thomas Schaefer(1931 - 2014)

TELL CITY –Thomas R. "Tom" Schaefer, 82, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, with his family at his side.
He was born Nov. 24, 1931, to Paul and Clara (Kluesner). Tom was married Oct. 22, 1960, to Mary Jo Rupprecht. They were married for 53 years.
A 1949 graduate of Tell City High School, he then studied business at Brescia College and the University of Evansville. Tom was employed for 38 years at Citizens National Bank and later at Old National Bank, retiring as senior vice-president and trust officer.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church where he was instrumental in forming the first parish council. He also served as lector and Eucharist minister. He was a past president of Home Mutual Insurance Co. and the Tell City-Troy Township School Corp., a fourth-degree member of Bishop Chartrand Knights of Columbus Council 1172, past director of the Perry County Hospital Foundation, the Perry County Arts Council and past treasurer of the Tell City Jaycees, Tell City Area Chamber of Commerce, the Council Agencies and St. Mary's Cemetery committee.
Tom enjoyed Indiana University basketball and spending time with his family and friends and was always ready to join a good game of cards.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Schaefer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Jo (Rupprecht) Schaefer of Tell City; six children, David (Mona) Schaefer of Louisville, Ky., Duane (Marcia) Schaefer of Tell City, Rick Schaefer of Newburgh, Maria (Aaron) Brooks of Clarendon Hills, Ill., Sam Schaefer of Tell City and Tony (Nicole) Schaefer of Gurnee, Ill.; five grandchildren, Krystal Reid, Gus Schaefer and Olivia, Eliza and Nathan Brooks; four sisters, Marie (Kermit) Foertsch of Naperville, Ill. and Dorothy Ress, Jane (Ed) Paulin and Kate (Jerry) Fischer, all of Tell City.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at St. Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Barnabas Gillespie OSB, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. There will be a Knights of Columbus prayer service Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
