ST. CROIX – Leo Eugene Lavin, 75, of Milan, N.M., passed away unexpectedly at his home Oct. 1, 2013.

Leo was born in West Fork July 24,1938, to the late Thomas and Bridget Lavin.
Leo graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1957. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, and a degree in special education from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Leo was a teacher and administrator at various schools in Indiana before moving to New Mexico in 1981. He retired in 2007 as director of special education for Grants-Cibola County Schools.
Leo remained interested in education and was an active member of the New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees. Leo enjoyed traveling, and had visited many of the states in the U.S. He drove back to Indiana every year or two to visit family members. He was also an avid reader.
Leo is survived by one brother, Edward Lavin of County Galway, Ireland, and two sisters, Edna McAndrews and Helen Wilson, both of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jessie Pennington, of Augusta, Ga.
Also surviving are nine nephews and nieces, many great-nephews and nieces and numerous cousins. Leo was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Grants, N.M.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Croix, with visitation for two hours prior. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Anyone wishing to do so may make a contribution to Holy Cross Church or to the donor's favorite charity.
