HAWESVILLE – Alva Ray Patton, Sr., 76, of Hawesville, passed away Monday Jan. 27, 2014, at Golden Years Living Center in Cannelton.

Ray was born April 21, 1937, in Whitesville, Ky., to the late Douglas and Mary Lee Evans Patton. He was a member at Hawesville Baptist Church, Hawesville Police Chief for 27 years, a member of Hancock County Masonic Lodge 115 and a member of Order of Eastern Star 326 in Fordsville. Ray was an avid gun enthusiast, ham radio operator, loved to reload ammunition and was a two-time state champion competition-shooter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hawkins Patton, whom he married Aug. 8, 1959 and was happily married to for 33 years, and a sister, Wilma Jean Patton.
Survivors include a daughter, Lesa (Dennis) Keown of Hawesville; two sons, Ray (Paula) Patton Jr and James (Diana) Patton, both of Tell City; eight grandchildren Nic Patton, Christina Lambert, Kristen Patton, Katie Nix, Alisha Patton, Ethan Patton, Justin Dooley and Ryan Dooley and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at Gibson and Son Funeral Home in Hawesville. Burial will be in Barren Run Cemetery in Larue County, Ky. with a graveside service at 2 p.m. Ray's family will be greeting friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday and from 7 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for Ray's family at www.gibsonandsonfh.com.
