SANTA CLAUS – David Thomas Colby of Santa Claus, Ind., passed away on Sept. 24, 2018, while on an Alaskan vacation with his wife. He was born in Elmhurst, Ill., on Nov. 2, 1936, to the late Parker Lane Colby and Helen (Heimer) Colby. He was preceded in death by one son, Tom Colby.
He is survived by his wife, Marry Julia (Judy) Colby of Santa Claus; John Colby, Joanne Colby and a grandson, Henry Colby, all of Indianapolis; his three stepchildren, six step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Army National Guard and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with degrees in Insurance and Finance. He was employed by CNA Surety as Indianapolis Branch Manager until his retirement in 1995.
With his wife, Judy, he founded Anderson Woods, Inc. in 1977, a non-profit corporation summer camp serving persons with disabilities. This summer will be its 43rd year continuing under new management. Dave also volunteered for a number of organizations serving the elderly in Florida.
Services will be held at St Meinrad Catholic Church on Oct. 5 at St Meinrad. Visitation at the church will be at 10 a.m. CST, followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St Meinrad cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, Tell City, or St Jude Children's Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
