Frank Kraus, 97, passed away on Dec. 28, 2017, at his residence in Tell City. He was born in St. Marks on Oct. 5, 1920, to the late William and Eleanor (Buttermann) Kraus.
A 1939 graduate of Tell City High School, Frank entered the military in 1942. As a World War II veteran and a member of the "greatest generation," he spent 39 months in the Army at various locations in the U.S., New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a member of VFW Post 2939.
Frank was married on Oct. 25, 1952, to Lois Pate. Together, he and Lois raised three children, Diane, Debbie, and Bill. Frank worked as an electrician at General Electric for 32 years, retiring in 1985. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking and was an accomplished "Fix-It" man for his family, friends, and neighbors.
Frank was a man of great integrity and deeply valued his relationships with family, friends and co-workers. He had a strong work ethic and the ability to nearly always see things in a positive light. He loved to tell a good story and always had time for visitors. Frank adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and in his final years, he loved nothing more than to hear about the details of their daily lives and marvel at their accomplishments.
Surviving are his wife, Lois; children, Diane Kraus of Evansville, Debra Emerson of Tell City and Bill (Susan) Kraus of Cannelton; his grandchildren, Kasey Ellis, Lantz (Andrea) Emerson, Erin (Ryan Fortwendel) Emerson, Brian (Renee) Kraus, and Lesley Kraus; and great-grandchildren, Soffia Ellis, Elliott Emerson, Eden Emerson, and Rowen Fortwendel.
Preceding him in death were his siblings, Mary Jane Kraus (in infancy), Marcella (Kraus) Schaefer, Mary Alice (Kraus) Thelander, and Louis Kraus. He is survived by one sibling, Catherine (Kraus) Bartholomew of Louisville, Ky.
Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, (Prayer Service at 6 p.m.), and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
