Hazel "LaVerne" Sanders, 83, passed away June 26, 2018, at the Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City.
She was born Jan. 6, 1935, to Alton and Hazel (Simpson) Lechner in Tell City. She was married to John Swaney and William "Harvey" Sanders and retired from Hilgers Laundry after 21 years. LaVerne also owned the Downtown Tavern and was an avid country music fan.
Surviving are her children, Glenn Swaney (Marie) of Lewisport, Ky., Marilyn Hubert (Gary) of Tell City, Carolyn Gilliland (Tim) of Haubstadt, and son-in-law, Carl Simpson of Lewisport; siblings, Viola Van Til of Kettering, Ohio, Jerry Lechner (Mid) of Tell City, Betty Northernor (Ron) of Evansville and Dennis Lechner (Lois) of Milford, Ohio; grandchildren, Yevette McDonald, Christina Swaney, Jenny Watson, Joshua Simpson, Jeremy Swaney, Cortney Roby, Cody Cail, Lara Mattingly and Emily Jochim; and 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands; her children, Diana Simpson and Eddie Swaney; her siblings, Bill Lechner, Jim Lechner, Keith Lechner, Marvin Lechner and Maytha Harpe; and two grandchildren, John David Swaney III and Jonathan Swaney.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with burial in Troy City Cemetery. Brother Roger Jarboe will be the officiant. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
