NEW BOSTON – Maurice A. Wittman, 77, of New Boston, completed his life journey April 25, 2014. He died at Perry County Memorial Hospital due to complications of congestive heart failure.
He was born in Tell City April, 6, 1937, to the late Herman J. and Miriam K. (Wolf) Wittman. Also preceding him in death is a brother, Kenneth.
Maurice served in the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed seeing the United States during his service. His primary occupation was master mechanic for Amax Coal Co. during the glory days of strip mining, primarily in Muhlenberg County, Ky. He also enjoyed cross-county truck driving before retiring.
Maurice enjoyed tending the earth by gardening and lawn work, as well as woodworking. All throughout his life, he enjoyed working on motors, and had quite a collection of antique tractors and other vehicles he restored. He was privileged to travel and shared fond memories of the places he visited and people he met along the way.
To his family, Maurice leaves a legacy of strength and endurance. He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Kreisle and husband, Paul of Tell City; a grandson, Dustin McFarland of Lewisport, Ky.; great-grandsons, Hunter and Jaren; sisters, Emogene (Robert) Huebschman of Tell City and Viola Schriefer of Newburgh and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael Mueller will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
