Merle J. Shephard, 79, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Lincoln Hills in Tell City.
He was born in Cannelton Aug. 15, 1933, to the late James and Maude (Keiser) Shephard. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Merle was a 1951 graduate of Troy High School and was an Army veteran. He served in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
A retired farmer, Merle enjoyed watching high-school basketball.
Surviving are his children, Scarlet (Cheyenne) Carter, John (Susan) Shephard and Walt (Teresa) Shephard, all of Cannelton; a brother, Maurice Shephard of Cannelton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, (today) at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.ÊThe Rev. Lewis Garrett will officiate.
