KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Roderick "Rod" Schutt, 66, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 12, 2013, with his wife by his side.

He was born in Melrose Park, Ill., to the late Edward and Margaret Schutt and grew up in Lombard, Ill. He graduated from the University of Illinois. He retired March 31, 2012, from General Shale, after 42 years of service in the clay pipe and brick industry.
He was an avid sportsman, an active volunteer at his church, in local prison ministry and with the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Schutt.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Donna Taylor Schutt; one brother, Ernie Schutt and wife Joanne of San Diego, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Kay Rudolph and husband Tony of Wadesville; two brothers-in-law, Chuck Taylor of New Boston and Homer Taylor and wife Doris of Evansville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was conducted Friday, June 14, at Concordia Lutheran Church. The Pastor Paul Becker officiated.
A local visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, (today) at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City, officiated by Pastor Daniel Gadbaw.
Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Tell City following the visitation. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church.
