ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - Wilber Ralph Smith, 94, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at his residence. He was a son of the late Joseph Wade and Mila Humphreys Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Messer Smith; four brothers, Cecil Smith, Oswald Smith, Howard Smith and William Smith and one sister, Grace Litton.
Mr. Smith was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. He retired from JA Jones Company and was of the Meth-odist faith. He loved playing with his grandchildren, helping neighbors with projects, spending time in his garage and gardening.
Mr. Smith is survived by four children, Rhonda Frick of Bloomington, Devonna Coleman and her husband, Frankie, of Elizabethton, Wilber Smith Jr. of Winona, Texas and Jon David Smith of Rockport; five grandchildren, Brian Gallaher and his partner, Vince Pierce, Kathleen Gallaher Seitz and her husband, Kevin, Erin Frick Fidler and her husband, Steve, Michael Frick and his wife, Rachelle, and Blake Smith; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Seitz, Riley Fidler and Aiden Fidler and a special friend, Dean Frick.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 (today) at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton. The funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home. The Rev. Ronan Dillard will officiate. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service Friday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Brian Gallaher, Michael Frick, Dean Frick, Frankie Coleman, Kevin Seitz and Steve Fidler.
