CANNELTON – Urban L. Sommer, 55, passed away April 4, 2014, at his home.
He was born in Tell City Feb. 15, 1959. A Perry Central High School graduate, he attended Oakland City University and worked at Waupaca Foundry until illness forced his retirement.
Urban was known to many for his musical talent. He and his family formed a band, Starbird, when he was younger and he later played with other local bands. He also enjoyed basketball, working on his home and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Marcie (Applegate) Sommer; daughters, Barbie Lindsey and Kristy Gebhard; a son, Chris Sommer (Tiffany); parents, Carl F. and Mary Sue (Thomas) Sommer; sisters, Peggy Mallory (Rick), Lori Stowe (Ronnie); brothers, Carl Sommer (Vicki), Kenny Sommer (Pam) and Travis Sommer (JoAnna) and grandchildren, Katie Lindsey, Abigail, August, Connor and Patience Sommer, Lydia and Drake Haycraft, Nolan and Nathan Gebhard and expecting Creedence Sommer in August.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Perry County Relay for Life.
