TELL CITY – Gladys F. Baur, 88, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Golden Living Center Lincoln Hills.
She was born in Troy, Dec. 14, 1925, daughter of the late Frank and Sophia (Simon) Kuntz. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Ralph S. "Poodie" Baur in 2012; son Ralph Baur Jr.; sisters Frances Kuntz, Irmina Davis, Polly Fischer, Helen Mattingly and Anna Johnson; a brother, Robert Kuntz and a son-in-law, Jim Smith.
Gladys attended St. Pius Elementary School and St. Pius Catholic Church. During her school days, she and her sister, Irmina, rang bells at St. Pius for church services.
She worked for General Electric for 30 years and enjoyed reading and gardening, especially taking care of her roses.
She is survived by her children, Gary Baur (Yvonne) of Tell City; daughters Sandra Smith of Troy, Paula Jo LeClere (Charles) of Tell City and Gladys Ann Couey (Rick) of Atlantic City, Wyo.; a brother, Jim Kuntz of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Westley Smith, Julie Caracappa, Greg and Geoff Baur, Emily Micena and Christine Shelton; 10 great-grandchildren, Sean Smith, Michelle Smith, Sophie, Adeline, Cassidy and Ceira Baur, Anthony Tucker, James Brett Thompson Jr., Cody Bauer and Shelby Huff and four great-great-grandchildren, Payton Thompson, Alyvia Thompson, Arieonna Thompson and Abbigail Kinser.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25 (today), at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Sengole Thomas G. will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. Monday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
