Erna Dooley Gelarden, 87, formerly of Hawesville, Ky., passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Zionsville Meadows in Zionsville.

She was born Nov. 26, 1925, in Madison, a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Lorina (Davis) Dooley.
Erna was raised in Tell City and graduated from Tell City High School in May 1943.
She married Lee Edward Gelarden Aug. 7, 1948, and they were together for nearly 50 years before his death April 20, 1998.
Erna was devoted to raising her sons, Kelly and Kent until they were older. Then she returned to work at Brown and Root Construction, Franklin Meserve Insurance Agency and Hancock Bank and Trust until she retired in 1990.
Erna is survived by her sons, Kelly Lee Gelarden and his wife, Susan (Baker) Gelarden of Brownsburg and John Kent Gelarden and his wife, Evelyn Broussard of Edwardsville, Ill.; a grandson, Ian Patrick Gelarden of Indianapolis; granddaughters Leea Marie Gelarden of Troy, Ill., Kayla J. Gelarden of Edwardsville and Megan DiAnn Gelarden of Indianapolis; a sister, Dona Ree (Dooley) Sweeney and brother-in-law Charles (Kelly) Sweeney of Tell City and a brother, Brooks Lee Dooley and sister-in-law Sue Dooley of Indianapolis.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Hawesville United Methodist Church, 360 Main St., in Hawesville.
Pastors Mike Canada and Howard Willen will officiate. Burial will be held during a private ceremony at Greenwood Cemetery in Tell City.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hawesville United Methodist Church Building Fund, 360 Main St., Hawesville, KY 42348 in Erna's memory.
