Mary Alice Highfill, 78, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro, Ky.

She was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Breckenridge County, Ky., daughter of the late Percy and Ella (Critcheloe) Hockenberry. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Eugene Highfill in 2011; son Steve "Flywheel" Highfill and a son in infancy; her sisters, Imogene Elverd and Dottie Harrison; a brother, Coleman Hockenberry; grandson Jody Hockenberry andÂ a granddaughter, Autumn Rickard.
Mary Alice had worked at General Electric and Farbest Foods. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, going to auctions and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter; Debbie Cash of Tell City; her sons, Charlie Highfill of St. Meinrad and Michael Highfill of Cannelton; a sister, Shirley Harrison of Ferdinand; her brothers, Danny Dale Hockenberry of Locust Hill, Ky., James Hockenberry of Westview, Ky., and William Hockenberry of Hawesville, Ky.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel with burial in Badger Cemetery in Derby. Brother Arlie Brock officiated. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.huberfuneralhome.net.
