OWENSBORO – Carol Albert "C.A." Maurer, 81, of Owensboro, went to be with Jesus March 1, 2014. He was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Tell City, to the late Albert "Dutch" and Ida Sandage Maurer.
C.A. was a member of Masonville United Methodist Church. He was a past master of Utica Masonic Lodge 742. C.A. was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Niobrara of the Atlantic Fleet and the carrier USS Wright of the Pacific Fleet where he participated in an underwater atomic bomb test in 1955. He was retired from General Electric, having worked 34 years in Owensboro, Ky., Tell City and Gainsville, Fla. plants.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Crawford and Margaret Mehling.
Surviving are his best friend and loving wife of 41 years, Donna Coffey Maurer of Owensboro; his children, Cheryl (Mark) Zellers of Tell City, Kimberly (John) Jennings of Spencer County, Jeffrey (Janelle) Maurer of Newburgh, stepdaughter Natalie (Truitt) Powell of Pontotoc, Miss. and stepson, Danny (Mary Ann) Lester of Portage; his grandchildren, Brandy, John, Cherie, Josh, Drew, Jeremiah, Krista, Cynthia, Emily and Brittany; nine great-grandchildren and a nephew, Mike Mehling.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Reverend Glenn Cox presiding. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Masonville United Methodist Church.
